Women's tennis prepares for conference tournament

In the meet against the Blugolds there were only two Blue Devil victories. Sophomore Allie Hinman and freshman Amanda O’Keefe won as a doubles team 8-2. Hinman was also the only singles winner. She defeated UW-Eau Claire’s number one singles player Gina Dahl 6-3.
The Blue Devils met the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Oct. 4 and pulled off a win after winning five matches. This was the first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win for UW-Stout. Winners of the night were Hinman and O’Keefe as the number one doubles team with a score of 8-3. Number two doubles team senior Jodie Czech and junior Kiersten Thomsen also won with a score of 8-5. Number three doubles team junior Lindsay Luberda and freshman Emily Jubert won 8-6. The Blue Devils pulled off the win after winning the last two singles matches of the night. Jubert defeated UW-Stevens Point’s Kaitlyn King 2-6, 6-4 and 7-5. Sophomore Sarah Smith, a UW-Stevens Point native, pulled out the win for the Blue Devils in her hometown, winning her matches 6-4 and 6-2.
UW-Stout picked up its first win of the season on Sept. 27 with an 8-1 victory over Bethel University.
UW-Stout won all but one of its singles matches. Hinman recorded a win with scores of 6-1 and 6-3. O’Keefe won with scores of 1-6, 6-4 and 10-4. Thomsen added in a victory with scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Luberda won with scores of 6-0, 0-6 and 10-3. Jubert put her opponent away with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. The combination of Hinman and O’Keefe won 8-1. Czech and Thomsen were victorious with a score of 8-4. Luberda and Jubert won 8-5.
The Blue Devils weren’t able to pull off a victory against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons on Sept. 26, dropping the match 5-4. Hinman won as the number one singles play 6-1 and 6-2. O’Keefe also pulled out a victory 7-5 and 6-4. In doubles competition, Hinman and O’Keefe won their set 8-4 and Thomsen and Czech won their set with the same score.
Due to her performance at the matches against Bethel University and UW-River Falls, Hinman was named at the WIAC athlete of the week. Hinman was 5-1 at the time of receiving the award. She had missed the first weekend of competition due to an injury.
UW-Stout traveled to Minnesota Sept. 20 to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional. Hinman was knocked out in the third round of the singles tournament. Smith and Jubert were eliminated as a doubles pair at the Gustavus Adolphus Fall Invitational. Jubert lost in the first round of consolation draw 8-3. Czech won her first match but was then knocked out by losing 6-3 and 6-2. Thomsen was knocked out in the first round of consolation draw as well losing 6-0 and 6-1. Czech and Thomsen were paired in the doubles bracket and fell in the semi-finals after winning their first two matches.
The Blue Devils dropped their conference opener to the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh on Sept. 12, losing 5-4. UW-Stout was swept in the doubles competition and couldn’t quite pull out the victory in the singles. Hinman won with scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Czech was 6-1, 1-6 and 6-1. O’Keefe was victorious with sets of 6-2 and 7-6. Jubert defeated UW-Oshkosh’s Ali Broenman 6-2 and 6-3.
UW-Stout couldn’t pull out a win against Beloit College on Sept. 7 losing 5-4. Freshman Trista Arendt won in the number six singles spot, 4-6, 7-6 and 6-1. In the number three singles spot; Luberda won 4-6, 6-2 and 6-1. Jubert won 6-1 and 6-0. Luberda and Jubert combined in the doubles competition to pull off the only doubles victory 8-1.
In the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational Sept. 6, UW-Stout placed seventh of eight teams. UW-Stout wasn’t able to pull off a win in the singles category having defaulted at the number three spot. In the doubles competition, Smith and O’Keefe defeated the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse’s Bohrmon and Schoenwalder 0-6, 6-4 and 11-9. They could not pull out a victory after that losing their next two matches. Luberda and Jubert won their first match 6-0 and 6-0 but also could not pull off another victory. Sophomore Kallie Anderson and freshman Stephanie Schick won their first match 6-0 and 6-0 but lost in their second match.
The Blue Devils dropped their season opener on Sept. 5 to Edgewood College 5-4. In the singles competition Smith won in the number two spot 6-4 and 6-3. In the five spot, Jubert won 6-2 and 6-1. In the six spot, Schick won 6-2 and 6-4. In the doubles competition, Smith and Anderson won 9-8.
UW-Stout will travel to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Oct. 16. They will host UW-Whitewater on Oct. 18 and the WIAC tournament will be held Oct. 25 and 26.
