For those of you who have read the book, this movie may come up a tad short. Like every movie that is based on a book, the movie cannot hold a candle to the book detail-wise. Also, the movie cannot live up to the way people imagine things in their heads. There is just no comparison to the human imagination. With that being said, this movie follows the book rather well.

The movie starts out with Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) moving to Forks, Wash. from Phoenix, Ariz. to live with her dad so her mom and stepfather can go to Florida for baseball spring training for her stepfather’s career. Bella has not been to Forks for a very long time. She used to spend her summers there, but stopped going after she was fourteen.

At first she is not happy because she doesn’t know anyone and it rains all of the time. The kids are nice to her and she is “the shiny new toy” to all of the boys in the school who are fighting for her attention. Things seem to be rather dull in Forks, until she discovers the Cullens.

The Cullens are five of the most beautiful and mysterious people that Bella has ever seen. She is instantly drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) when they have a Biology class together. The only problem is, Edward can’t stand to be in the same room as her.

After their meeting, Bella wants to confront Edward to see what his problem is, but she can’t because he doesn’t come to school for days. The next time that she sees him he is a complete gentleman to her, but tells her they should not be friends. After school, Bella is standing by her truck, unlocking the door, when a van spins out of control straight towards her. In a flash, Edward is right by her side, blocking the van from crushing her. Bella is downright confused and Edward instantly becomes the only thing that Bella thinks about.

Bella goes on a research expedition to figure out what is really going on with Edward, since he won’t tell her. She asks her friend Jacob about a couple of the legends in his tribe and he gives her some vital information. She is determined to find out more and finds herself at a bookstore in Port Angeles after dark, with about a mile walk ahead of her. As she is walking, she realizes that she is being followed by a pack of drunken men. They start to catcall her and surround her. Just as they start to get grabby, Edward flies around the corner in his car and nearly runs the men over. He then tells Bella to get in the car and speeds away.  This is when things start to get interesting.

This movie is full of romance, drama, scenery that is to die for and acting that is simply mesmerizing. This movie will certainly captivate any type of audience—males included! Once you start watching it is difficult to look away and instantly leaves you wanting more. At the end of the movie is a perfect set up for a continuation into the second book, “New Moon.” No matter if you have read all four books or have never heard of Stephenie Meyer, this movie will be a hit.
